Ve čtvrtek 29.11. od 11:45 vystoupí na Katedře filozofie FF ZČU v učebně RJ 209 s přednáškou "Big data, Deep data: Studying culture through texts using data mining" Justin E. Lane z Institutu kognitivní a evoluční antropologie při Oxfordské univerzitě a z Centra pro modelování sociálních systémů při univerzitě v norském Kristiansandu. Justin E. Lane se odborně věnuje studiu náboženství z evoluční perspektivy za využití poznatků kognitvních věd, k čemuž využívá především metod počítačového modelování.

Anotace: The idea of culture-as-text has become an important notion in the humanities since Geertz made it famous decades ago. Here, I wish to turn the phrase around, and suggest that we can study texts as cultures and rely on human cognition as our interpretive framework. Using contemporary analytic approaches, we can study massive amounts of texts, more than could ever be read in a single lifetime. In this talk, I wish to focus on the sorts of questions social scientists and humanities scholars are interested in, and suggest that instead of using "big data" as our paradigm, we should focus instead on "deep data" or the use of algorithms to analyse text data with a focus to understand and explain phenomena within a specific socio-cultural context.
