About the Department of Romance Languages (KRO)

The department of Romance Languages (KRO) offers Bachelor´s and Master´s degree programmes.

In the BA programme Foreign Languages for Commercial Purposes KRO offers French language studies (in combination with English language studies). Graduates in this study field have a good command of spoken and professional language. They are equipped with knowledge of cultural and political situation in French speaking countries.

The Department offers the follow-up MA programme French Language Teaching for Secondary Schools. Students of this programme have an opportunity to study for one semester at partner university – Université d´Artois in Arras. Students can obtain their MA degree at the University of West Bohemia as well as at Université d´Artois in Arras if they complete their semester in Arras and defend successfully their master´s thesis before a joint committee.

KRO provides teaching of professional French and Latin courses. The Department also provides teaching of French, Italian and Spanish language in the Doctor´s degree programme. KRO participates in Master´s degree programme European Studies KFI FF.

KRO is involved in cooperation with universities in France, Canada, Poland, Portugal, and Slovakia. As a part of Sokrates/Erasmus programme, the Department offers to students an opportunity to study for one semester in Arras, Limoges, Paris XII Val de Marne, and Perpignan.

KRO offers to international students the subject Czech-French Relations which is taught in French.

In research and development the Department staff specializes in professional French, applied linguistics, didactics of foreign languages, and francophone culture. KRO organizes international scientific conferences and participates in professional projects.
